Why Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is a pan-diagnostic coping skill (aka, it’s helpful for everything). Learning to be mindful can help us to become more aware of problematic thought patterns while simultaneously strengthening our ability to redirect our attention back to the present. It has been incorporated into many evidence based practices for anxiety, depression, trauma, chronic pain, ADHD, OCD and it’s evidence base continues to grow. By practicing mindfulness regularly, you can actually start to reshape the way your brain is wired. I’ve posted a few exercises (with hopefully more to follow) to help you get started on your journey. Feel free to use or share these exercises to promote wellness in your life.

Mindfulness of Breath

This is a free introductory video for a mindfulness of breath exercise set to some footage shot near my beloved Chilkat River in my backyard. When I’m teaching my clients about mindfulness, this is one of the first exercises that I use to introduce the basic skills.

Mindfulness Body Scan

Building on the Mindfulness of Breath exercise, this exercise teaches you to attune to sensations in your body. Set to a some beautiful sunrise scenery on the Chilkat River at (-14 degrees).
